Front Door Gift from my Neighbors

While I was at the Mayo Clinic last Fall, some of my neighbors decided that I needed a more accessible Front Entrance:

At first I thought how wonderful my neighbors are! But I felt that perhaps my mom-in-law and my neighbor from across the street (whose husband designed and organized the Project) might need it more that me, But with recent snows that we had I learned to appreciate my hsnd rsils. Sometimes other people know what you need before you recognize what you need!

Still time to enter if you like……..

Home Safe and Sound

We arrived home safe and sound last night. After being stopped by a storm and multiple accidents in NM the day before, with clear rods and skies we decided to make the ~600 mile drive from Galllup, NM to Boulder County last night. Had some snow on the way, but less than an inch and easily drivable.

May 2020

No, this wasn’t the snow that greeted us last night. This image is from a late snow last Spring. But still a very comforting view of Home……..

Through The Glass: Patience

By the time you read this we will be on our way back to the Phoenix Mayo Clinic for the next 30 days. We made arrangements to stay at the Condos we had used before.

After talking to the second neuro-surgery teleconference it was decided to run some additional tests before scheduling surgery. I will tell you that I had started the steroid therapy and there was some improvement, especially for my left eye. Undoubtably this is the source of my extended testing.

Now I have the results or a preliminary evaluation…..Surgery now or Later? The vote for surgery later (maybe). We are in a wait and see mode hoping to stabilized my vision and move forward. I wii definitely ready to hear that news.

So I am off into the Mountains for a drive today. Still testing ‘old cameras’ and ‘new’ films. Taking it easy for the rest of this year. And can I Say “Hallelujah, Amen”!

Looking Through Someone Else’s Glass………

A friend recently sent me a link to a professional photographer, Jay Zukerkorn, who is dealing with the changes in his photography resulting from Parkinson’s Disease. He has tremors to deal with, but decided to work with them instead of against them.

Here are two quotes from the article that are especially pertinent to me:

“Has Parkinson’s disease changed your perspective on your art?

Absolutely. In my former career, my photos were hyper-sharp and perfectly retouched. Now I embrace these blurred imperfections.

In what other ways do your photographs speak for you?

My photos represent a new way of walking through life. I’ve had a life-altering diagnosis, which has been humbling, but it hasn’t stopped me from moving forward.”

So I no longer reject the ‘out of focus’.  Especially since I am experimenting with all if these pre-1940 cameras.  In this case My Kodak 1913 Autographic:

Then I found some problems with my right eye; a vitreous detachment. Luckily it won’t cause blindness and will probably even show some improvement. But oddly now each eye has its own specialist…….

So now I am moving in a different way (figuratively and literally) and seeing and experience the world differently. So check out some of My Inner Monet as well…….

Abstraction

I made a big mistake when I exposed this Frame with my 1913 Kodak Autographic No.1 But it grew on me and I decided that I liked the resultant Abstraction.

It is Fuji Velvia 50 Film. So can you guess what I did wrong?

Last Word from the Garden: Velvia 50 vs. E100

As we have seen, there’s not a great difference in the color rendition for the Flowers from my Garden. Here are the final flower examples from the last roll from my Garden.  I didn’t get to work much with the Poppies or Peonies because they were wiped out by a storm.

For all images the E100 is on the left and Velvia 50 is on the right.  In the case of the Peonies above, the E100 is actually more saturated.  And I believe that same could be said of the Iris below.  Go figure……

Again, no real difference in the Torch Lilies below (genus Kniphofia).

And for the Turkish Poppies…….one can say that the E100 has a richer color.

So my Garden didn’t really tell me anything.  I know from earlier Landscape work that the E100 seemed Cold. And Flowers from the Mayo Clinic Cactus Garden were off color also for E100. My last roll of film comparison will be landscapes from the Snowy Range of Wyoming.  I will be using a warming filter, so we’ll see what difference that makes.  And a surprising choice for my color film going forward……
